Category 12 releases Excitation Espresso Stout

Well it is winter, so tis the season for stouts and barley wines. Not much else to say because the press release says it all. It sounds like cold brewed coffee was used in the brewing process, which is much more favourable. There is much less earthy, coffee bitterness than using ground coffee in the mash. Vancouver Island releases Highway 19 IPA

Perhaps press releases are soooo 2015? This news was obtained from Twitter and one beer blogger’s adventure. Apparently VIB has released, perhaps, a new bomber. Not a lot of info, but the nice lady behind the counter said it was an IPA dry hopped with Mosaic. This IPA should appeal to all but one #yyjbeer drinker.


Phillips releases Citricity IPA

New releases, from all breweies, have been a little thin lately. Perhaps it was all the effort with the fresh hopped beers last month. Phillips saves us all with a new six pack, a grapefruit zest IPA. This is not a new concept, it has been done before, but not by many local breweries. As a flavour combination, it really works. Some of our favourite hops impart a distinct grapefruit citrus flavour which blends well with grapefruit peel addition. Suitable press release and pretty picture to follow.


INTRODUCING: Citricity Grapefruit Zest IPA! This grapefruit zest-infused IPA is charged with freshly peeled fruit juciness. Zesty pith notes mingle in perfect union with bright citrus hop character. Peel back the sunshine and enjoy some citrus paradise.

This new release is available in a 6 pack of 355mL cans and is making its way to BC liquor store shelves now. It’ll be crossing the Rockies into Alberta next week. If you happen to be in our neighborhood this Thursday October 27th, come on by for a free draught taster from 4-6pm

Spinnakers releases freshed hopped and pumpkin

More to come. Spins also has a pumpkin and fresh hopped beer out now and soon, respectively. This is new an India session lager. Usually fresh hopped beers are full strength IPA’s . Sign me up


Swan’s releases pumpkin ale

Tis the season. I thought this was the first pumpkin ale, but it is not. Spinnakers had one out last week. Still, if you like pumpkin this is your time of year. Swan’s also has their famous coconut porter out on shelves also.Press release to follow.

A cornucopia of fall flavours; nutmeg, allspice, ginger, cinnamon and fresh baked pumpkin create a one of a kind malty, full bodied, pie-like brew.

Available in growlers and draught at Swans Pub. This beer will be available on Vancouver Island and the Mainland in 650ml bottles at your nearest craft beer friendly liquor store.


Phillips first with fresh hopped and pumpkin.

I believe this the fresh Victoria brewery to have their fresh hopped beer on shelves. It might also be a first with multiple fresh hops used. I’m not sure if it is the first pumpkin beer or not, Swan’s released one recently. But this is the first sour pumpkin beer I had heard of. Lots of bombers to choose from. Press release to follow


4 seasonal bombers have just been released to fill the fridge this fall! We’ve upped the ante on pumpkin, adding Toothless Pumpkin Sour to a roster that includes the original Crooked Tooth and his barrel-aged cousin Crookeder Tooth.

Rounding out this release is the return of Green Reaper Fresh Hop IPA! The 2016 vintage uses whole come Cascade, Chinook and Centennial hops delivered fresh to the brewhouse.

All 4 can be found here at the brewery as well as at your favourite private beer store. Toothless and Green Reaper can also be grabbed from your local government BC Liquor store as well.


Driftwood collab saison release

Sorry it has been a while. We/me at BOTR has been very slack about new releases.

Driftwood has a collaboration with Persephone brewing. Persephone are the ones on the Sunshine Coast near Gibsons that make stellar beers. Press release to follow. It is available now. Don’t forget that the fresh hopped beers are coming soon.

The Earth, Sun and Moon have aligned to deliver this delicious collaboration. Persephone and Driftwood have joined forces to create this strong, effervescent Saison. Notes of tropical fruit abound from the warm fermentation required by our use of the famous Brasserie Dupont yeast.

This is a rare and limited release available in bomber bottles next week!
