Category 12 releases espresso stout collaboration

You know, I have issues with some press releases these days. Like this one below. C12 is releasing a export-style stout embellished with cold-pressed espresso and cocoa nibs. Export? How far away is Keating Cross Road anyways that it needs an export designation? It is not that far way for you to grab your growler fill this Friday. This one won’t last long. But for those who have Victoriaitis, like myself, and don’t like driving too far, I’m sure it will be on tap at better local watering holes. Controversial press release to follow, but no pretty label as this is a keg only release.

Tap Room Release of our Keating Collaboration – an Espresso/Cocoa Stout!

Category 12 is proud to announce its 2nd full-batch experimental beer release!

This beer is in collaboration with our Keating Cross Road neighbours Level Ground Coffee. We use fair trade cold-pressed espresso and cocoa nibs in this rich and smooth export-style stout. We were inspired by our original R&D batch of a coffee stout, but we wanted to make sure the recipe was at its best before crafting a full-size batch of this beer.

The Keating Collaboration Stout is 7.5% ABV and has layers of roasty, toasty character. The espresso flavours combined with the rich chocolate are intertwined in this beer, but do not overpower your palate. This is a medium-full bodied beer and as dark as a Keating winter night. The perfect beer for finishing off the winter!

Join us as at the brewery as we tap the first kegs this Friday, January 29thThis release will initially only be available in our tap room for tasters, glasses and both sizes of growler fills, but might just make it out to a few select craft beer friendly pubs and restaurants soon 🙂

Phillips releases Sky High Grand Fir Ale

The first new release of 2016 goes to Phillips with a fir tree bough infused beer. Cedar is a more common, non-hop ingredient used to bitter or flavour beer.  This sounds like a fun way to use a truly PNW ingredient. Press release and picture to follow.

Sky High Grand Fir Ale – 5% – 650mL fir beer
January 5th, 2015 – Branching out from the usual with our newest seasonal release! Sky High Grand Fir Ale is brewed with freshly harvested grand fir boughs which are added directly into the kettle.  It is a pine ale that avoids the overtly resinous in favour of a brighter, more nuanced character featuring citrus and evergreen.

Pours a light straw colour with a full frothy white head. Soft aromas of sweet fir leads to a bright pine flavour profile accented with notes of citrus and rosewater. Finishes with a subtle lingering bitterness.

This seasonal brew is only available for a limited time from your preferred craft-focused private liquor store.  If you find yourself in our neck of the woods, come on down to the brewery for a free tasting this Thursday from 4-6.
