Most of you have tried beer from the new kids up island. If you happen to be in the Courtenay area, Saturday June 27 stop by their grand opening. Details are still a little vague, but their facebook page mentions beer, pizza and a patio DJ. I cannot think of anything better.
Remember in March, we mentioned that the kids at Moon were working on another sour. It will be very limited release like the first sour crow. Will be available from the pub June 16. While you are there, grab the 2015 release of the Berliner weisse. Press release to follow:
A Sour Saison Aged in French Oak Pinot Noir Barrels
Taking inspiration from traditional saison brewers of Belgium and revivalist brewers of North America, Tempus Corvi is a mixed-fermentation saison. We let this saison rest for 5 months in French oak wine barrels where the activity of a diverse collection of Saccharomyces and Brettanomyces yeasts and lactic acid bacteria transformed the beer, adding sourness and additional complexity. With its bright acidity and light body, Tempus Corvi is a refreshing beer ready to drink now or be cellared for continued development along its own course.
Don’t miss out. Haven’t had a cask from anyone in a while. At cask gets tapped at 5:30pm. Press release to follow
Come join us this Thursday [Tomorrow people!!] at the Garricks Head Pub to ring in summer with a refreshing pint from our Sour IPA cask conditioned with rhubarb. This is our first foray into the realm of sours, so don’t miss out!
No sure why I’m posting this. Most likely everyone knows about this beer, it is a yearly favourite. I have drank two bottles already and plan to get more. The Driftwood 2015 sour hit CBAW shelves last week. This year it is a dark sour called Oscuritas. Again, it is sporting the super cool labels from Hired Guns. Now I am just rambling, pretty picture to follow, flavour descriptions of sour beers never sound appealing.
Being this is Vancouver Islands beer blog, we thought it would be nice to focus on something other that Victoria beers. Only a short drive away is Red Arrow Brewing in Duncan. There have been rumblings about these kids opening soon, now it is official. They are open and serving beer. The line up is the standard fair: a hefe, a lager/Kolsch, amber and an IPA. All the details can be found on their website. Good luck. Sorry, no pretty photos
Short Wave West Coast Pale Ale – 5% – 473mL
Scan through the static and discover the Short Wave. This wireless beer transmitter pours a beautiful sunset orange colour with a pillow white head. A medium, malt-forward body is electrified with bright citrus hops until sweetness and bitter are dialed to balance.
Enjoy this frequency frequently.
