Multiple Salt Spring Island Releases

Apparently there are multiple Salt Spring Island releases floating around. Ryan used to be my friend and kept me informed about new beers originating from the (smaller) island. I sense an upcoming modification to my facebook friend list.

Much to report.  Draught only. Red Unicorn – Red Unicorn is a 7%ABV Spiced Ale made with cinnamon and lactose for a delicious sweet cinnamon characteristic. I liken it to the Fireball of beer. Very similar flavor profile to a pumpkin ale, but less clove, no pumpkin, and more cinnamon.
Draught only. RyePA – our Rye Pale Ale is a 6.3%ABV Ale that is minimally hopped (sitting at 28IBU) allowing us to showcase all the natural beauty of the rye. made with 28% rye malt and 20% Munich dark malt, this brew shows flavors of spice, berry fruit, and a touch of caramel. It’s ALMOST all gone though. Still available on tap at the Garricks.
Draught only. Noveau Classique – Our Salt Spring take on the Spanish culinary staple: Estrella Inedit. Brewed in collaboration with Little Jumbo this Kolsch style ale is brewed with pale malt and flaked rye to 5%ABV and is then flavored with cumin, caraway, fresh fennel, and candied orange peel. Meant to pair with almost any dish, this ale has a bright citrusy aroma with initial flavors of caraway that make way for a long fennel finish. Balanced by a delicate light body and subtle carbonation.
Upcoming cask event: “Hair of the Dog” Blood Orange Golden Ale – It’s winter fruit season.  These TWO casks are being created for a fundraiser that we are putting on for the Victoria Humane Society at the Garricks Head Pub on Wednesday March 19th. $.50 from each pint sold will go towards the society. Plus we will be hosting a silent auction and selling some SSI branded swag, all proceeds going to the society. These casks should be pretty straightforward. Reinforcing the already notable citrus characteristics in our golden ale with the addition of blood orange. Blood oranges also contain a slight bitterness which should help dry the beer out. Plus the colour is going to be spectacular.
