Spinnakers Beer release and other events

Dave always gets the posts as his ear is closer to the ground of the islands beer scene. Spinnakers Pumpkin Porter is now on tap at the brewpub. No mention of bottling or growlers fills on this one. Yesterday was also a tap takeover with pumpkin beers and harvest seasonals from many local breweries (Salt Spring Island, Phillips, etc.) Don’t forget to be at the brewpub, October 31st at 4pm for the giant pumpkin cask filled with the porter

If I am not mistaken, Moon Under Water is having their GIANT pumpkin cask tonight. A huge 255 lbs pumpkin filled with peazen harvest weizen. Sadly I will not be there as I have an allergy to pumpkin.

Phillips Countdown to Christmas with Advent Calendar

Phillips_Snowcase.1.1

Not letting a good idea go to waste, Phillips has released their own version of a beer advent calendar, the ‘Snowcase’.

Word is on that the brewery is already sold out. ¬†You’ll have to check your local store for some.

There may still be shadows of Halloween ghosts haunting your neighborhood, but we couldn’t keep the wrapping on this holiday project any longer! This year, we’re celebrating the Christmas season with the Snowcase Calendar–a 24 craft beer pack designed to give your taste buds a daily treat right up to turkey time.

We pulled beers from every area of our recipe book and stuffed this calendar with 24 different Phillips craft brews, including full-time favourites, special seasonals, and even some barrel-aged releases.

December 1st may be a month away, but if you’re looking to count down to Christmas with a Snowcase Pack, be sure to get your Santa claws one quick because supplies are limited and going fast!

brewvicnewlogoHey folks, Brewvic is celebrating the National Homebrew Association’s Learn To Homebrew Day this first weekend of November. There will be multiple people out with their systems brewing (including myself) , answering any questions and talking beer. If you are curious about brewing, want to see different all grain systems or just plain have nothing to do come out and join us! If you would like to come out and brew that would be awesome as well.

All you need to bring is an interest in making at home.

Winterbrau 2013

Fun fact, Winterbrau 2012 was the last time I did any sort of trimming or cutting to my facial hair.

Lighthouse Takes a Road Trip and Give Us a Fresh Hop Ale

roadtripThe gang at Lighthouse went up to Cedar Valley Hop Yards and harvest a whole buncha hops. Well, I bottled that beer this morning.

This is Cedar Valley’s first year growing hops and hopefully they have many more.

Road Trip Fresh Hopped Dark Ale is bottled and ready to go! Road Trip was brewed with Pale, Crystal and Chocolate malts along with hilarity, dreadful singing and fresh, new-season hops picked by the Lighthouse crew at Cedar Valley Hop Yards one fabulous day on Vancouver Island.

Road Trip features chinook and newport hops.

It’s in most stores in Victoria already.
